Mr Assad he is not discouraged by threats from the West
President Assad says Syria is capable of confronting military action, as the US claims it has evidence of sarin gas use.
US Secretary of State John Kerry told US news channels the case is building for a military attack and that the administration learned of the sarin use through samples of hair and blood provided to Washington by first responders in Damascus.
Meanwhile Mr Assad has told Syrian state television his country is capable of confronting any external aggression.
The American threats of launching an attack against Syria will not discourage Syria away from its principles or its fight against terrorism supported by some regional and Western countries, first and foremost the United States of America.
UN chemical weapons inspectors
Syria generally refers to rebels fighting to topple the leader as terrorists.
Former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani told the semi-official Iranian Labour News Agency that Syrians were the target of chemical attacks by their own government and now they must also wait for an attack by foreigners.
The people of Syria have seen much damage in these two years, he added.
Mr Kerry said he was confident that Congress will give Barack Obama its backing for a military strike against Syria.
But the former senator added that the president has the authority to act on his own if Congress doesnt give its approval.

Members are scheduled to return from a summer break on September 9.
Syrias Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad told reporters Mr Obama had grown hesitant and confused after he postponed the action until after the vote.

Earlier William Hague ruled out a second vote on British military involvement in Syria.

Syrian opposition coalition has called on the US Congress to support military intervention in Syria.
The Syrian National Coalition said on Sunday that any attack against the government of President Bashar al-Assad must also include a transfer of more weapons to foreign-backed militants fighting there.
Any possible military action should be carried out in conjunction with an effort to arm the Free Syrian Army, the foreign-backed bloc said in a statement.
It added that an increase in arms supply is key to restraining Assad and ending the ongoing bloodshed.
On August 31, US President Barack Obama said he has decided to launch military strike against Syria, adding that he would seek authorization for military action from Congress after lawmakers return from recess on September 9.
Syria opposition coalition also stated that it was disappointed with Obamas decision to seek Congress approval for an attack on Syria.
We had a feeling of disappointment. We were expecting things to be quicker, that a strike would be imminent But we believe Congress will approve a strike, it added.
The bloc further said that it would seek more support from other countries, including Turkey, in an attack against Syria.
The coalition will get in touch with Arab countries and Turkey so that they cooperate as much as possible with the United States.
Meanwhile, Assad said on Sunday that his country is capable of confronting any foreign aggression.

Press TV claims Saudi Prince Bandar behind chemical attack in Syria
Syrians in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta say Saudi Arabia provided chemical weapons for an al-Qaeda linked terrorist group which they blame for the August 21 chemical attack in the region, a Mint Press News report says.
The article co-authored by a veteran AP reporter, said interviews with doctors, residents, anti-government forces and their families in Ghouta suggest the terrorists in question received chemical weapons via Saudi spymaster Saudi Arabias intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud.
The report quoted the father of a militant as saying that his son and 12 others were killed inside a tunnel used to store weapons supplied by a Saudi militant leader, known as Abu Ayesha.
The man described the weapons as having a tube-like structure while others were like a huge gas bottle.
Anti-government forces, interviewed in the article, complained they were not informed of the nature of the weapons they had been given, nor did they receive instructions how to use them.
When Saudi Prince Bandar gives such weapons to people, he must give them to those who know how to handle and use them, said one militant.
Another militant accused the Takfiri militants of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front of refusing to cooperate with other insurgents or sharing secret information. They merely used some ordinary rebels to carry and operate this material, he said.
We were very curious about these arms. And unfortunately, some of the fighters handled the weapons improperly and set off the explosions, he added.
The authors noted that the doctors who treated the chemical weapons attack victims cautioned interviewers against asking questions regarding who exactly was responsible for the deadly assault.
Also more than a dozen militants interviewed said their salaries came from the Saudi government. They reportedly said Prince Bandar is referred to as al-Habib (the lover) by al-Qaeda militants fighting in Syria.
According to Independent, it was Prince Bandars intelligence agency that first accused the Syrian government in February of using sarin gas in a bid to rally support for Riyadhs efforts to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, has said his government had obtained evidence that sarin gas was used in an attack in Syria last month that the US claims killed 1,400 people.
Hair and blood samples provided to the US from first responders on the scene of last months attack in Damascus have tested positivefor signatures of sarin, Kerry told US NBC and CNN televisions on Sunday.
Kerry said the case is building for a military attack against the government. However, the evidence has yet to be presented to the public.
The Syrian regime is known to have stockpiles of sarin, a deadly nerve agent, although the regime has claimed that rebels have used the substance in attacks.
The statement came a day after Obama stepped back from his threat to launchan attack unilaterally, instead saying he would consult the US Congress before any such action.

سوريا عموما يشير إلى المتمردين الذين يقاتلون للاطاحة زعيم بأنهم “إرهابيون ” .

وقال برنامج سكاي مورناغان أن ” البرلمان قد تكلم “، وأنه سيكون من غير الواقعي أن يحاول مرة أخرى لاقناع النواب لدعم القوة العسكرية .
و صفت أيضا حزب العمل ” الانتهازية ” وقال ان النواب في بعض “التفكير من الصعب القيام به ” بعد موقف أخذوا في تصويت يوم الخميس.
وندد البابا فرانسيس استخدام الأسلحة الكيميائية و أعلن انه سيقود يوميا في جميع أنحاء العالم من الصوم و الصلاة من أجل السلام في سوريا في 7 أيلول .

” يقول السوريون في ضاحية دمشق الغوطة قدمت المملكة العربية السعودية للحصول على أسلحة كيماوية تنظيم القاعدة مرتبط المجموعة الإرهابية التي يحملونها مسؤولية الهجوم الكيميائية 21 أغسطس في المنطقة ، يقول تقرير أخبار الصحافة النعناع.

ونقل التقرير عن والد احد النشطاء قوله ان ابنه و 12 آخرين لقوا مصرعهم داخل نفق يستخدم لتخزين الأسلحة الموردة من قبل زعيم القاعدة السعودي ، المعروف باسم أبو عائشة .
وصف رجل الأسلحة و جود ” أنبوب يشبه هيكل ” بينما كان البعض الآخر مثل ” زجاجة غاز ضخمة. ”

وأضاف “كنا غريبة جدا عن هذه الأسلحة . واضاف انه ولسوء الحظ ، التعامل مع بعض المقاتلين الأسلحة بشكل غير صحيح وفجروا التفجيرات ” .
وأشار المؤلفون إلى أن الأطباء الذين عالجوا ضحايا الهجوم الأسلحة الكيميائية حذر المقابلات ضد طرح الأسئلة حول من هو بالضبط المسؤولة عن الهجوم القاتل .
كما قال أكثر من عشرة مسلحين مقابلات جاء رواتبهم من الحكومة السعودية . ورد قالوا يشار الأمير بندر إلى ” الحبيب ” ( عاشق ) من قبل مسلحي القاعدة القتال في سوريا .
وفقا ل المستقلة ، كان من وكالة الاستخبارات الأمير بندر أن المتهم الأول الحكومة السورية في شهر فبراير من استخدام غاز السارين في محاولة لحشد الدعم لجهود الرياض للاطاحة بالرئيس السوري بشار الأسد .

British MPs have voted to reject possible military action against the Assad regime in Syria to deter the use of chemical weapons.
A government motion was defeated 285 to 272, a majority of 13 votes.
Prime Minster David Cameron said it was clear Parliament does not want action and the government will act accordingly.
It effectively rules out British involvement in any US-led strikes against the Assad regime.
And it comes as blow to the authority of David Cameron, who had already watered down a government motion proposing military action, in response to the opposition Labour Partys demands for more evidence of Assads guilt.
Labour had seen its own amendment calling for compelling evidence rejected by MPs by 114 votes.
But in an unexpected turn of events MPs also rejected the governments motion in support of military action in Syria if it was supported by evidence from United Nations weapons inspectors, who are investigating claims President Bashar al-Assads regime had used chemical weapons against civilians. Syria: US Says Military Is Ready For Action
The West edges closer to military action in Syria as the Assad regime insists it will use “all means” to defend itself.

“The US defence secretary says his country is “ready to go” if President Barack Obama orders action in Syria, as the UK recalls Parliament over the crisis.
Britain’s Armed Forces are drawing up plans for a potential military intervention in response to an alleged toxic gas attack in Damascus, which is believed to have killed hundreds of civilians.
Rebels in Syria have also handed Western powers a list of suggested targets for a strike, according to a Reuters source.
US defence secretary Chuck Hagel said Mr Obama asked the Pentagon to give him “all options for all contingencies”.
Mr Cameron says the Syrian attack was “absolutely abhorrent”
“We are prepared. We have moved assets in place to be able to fulfil and comply with whatever option the president wishes to take,” Mr Hagel told the BBC.
US secretary of state John Kerry said there was “undeniable” evidence of a large-scale chemical attack, with intelligence strongly pointing to President Bashar Assad’s government.
And he said the regime would be held accountable.
France’s President Francois Hollande said his country was prepared to “punish” those who gassed innocent people last Wednesday and it seemed certain that forces loyal to Mr Assad were behind the attack.
Prime Minister David Cameron, who is back in London after cutting short his family holiday, says a clear motion on the crisis will be put before MPs on Thursday.
Mr Hagel says the US is “ready to go”
He wrote on Twitter: “Speaker agrees my request to recall Parliament on Thurs. There’ll be a clear Govt motion & vote on UK response to chemical weapons attacks.”
Foreign Secretary William Hague has declined to rule out action, such as targeted air strikes, being launched within days.
But Mr Cameron – who is holding a National Security Council (NSC) meeting on Wednesday – is under pressure to be able to legally justify any intervention.
A build-up of military aircraft at Britain’s base on Cyprus, RAF Akrotiri, suggested that planning had reached a developed stage.
Sky’s Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall said any potential action “would be a punch on the nose for the Assad regime. I don’t think the US is ready for Assad to go because they are frightened of who would take his place.”
But Syria insists it will not submit quietly to an attack.
Mr Muallem says any foreign strike on his country would be “delusional”
“We have two options: either to surrender, or to defend ourselves with the means at our disposal,” said Syrian foreign minister Walid Muallem.
“The second choice is the best: we will defend ourselves.”
Mr Muallem also claims Tuesday’s UN inspections of alleged chemical attack sites had to be scrapped because of disputes between rebels.
Snipers shot at the UN team on Monday, but the inspectors still managed to collect some “valuable” samples.

The UN inspections will take place on Wednesday instead, Mr Muallem said.
Syria denies using the chemical weapons and Russia – which supplies arms to Syria and is the regime’s most powerful ally – has backed claims that video footage of victims could be opposition propaganda.
“I challenge those who accuse our forces of using these weapons to come forward with the evidence,” Mr Muallem said.
The Arab League has accused the Syrian regime of carrying out the suspected gas attack and Saudi Arabia has called for “firm and serious” action against the state.
The US postponed a Syrian crisis meeting with Russia that was scheduled for this week because of America’s ongoing review of the attack.

Russia said postponing The Hague meeting was a “serious disappointment”. Moscow also warned that any use of force against Syria would have “catastrophic consequences”.
“We call on our American colleagues and all members of the international community to show prudence, strict observance of international law, and above all, the fundamental principles of the UN Charter,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
And deputy prime minister Dmitry Rogozin claimed western countries are behaving in the Islamic world like a “monkey with a grenade”.
Russia’s emergencies ministry has told Sky News that it is sending a plane to Syria today to take in humanitarian aid and is planning to bring around 150 of its citizens out.
It is unclear whether Obama would seek authority from the UN or Congress before using force. But it is likely Russia and China would block US efforts to authorise action through the UN Security Council.
Meanwhile, wary investors have exited world markets because of the talk of potential military intervention.

“PARIS — French President Francois Hollande said Tuesday that his country is prepared to take action against those responsible for gassing people in Syria.
“France is ready to punish those who took the heinous decision to gas innocents” in Syria last week, Hollande said at a conference with France’s ambassadors. He did not elaborate.
“I have decided to increase our military support to the National Syrian Coalition,” the main Syrian opposition group in exile, he also said.
France, one of Europe’s biggest military powers, has not specified what preparation it is taking for any possible international action against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime.
But on Monday Hollande said time is running out for the Syrian regime and airstrikes are a possibility. “Everything will come into play this week,” he told Le Parisien newspaper. “There are several options on the table, ranging from strengthening international sanctions to airstrikes to arming the rebels.

Syria: Breakdown of services increases suffering – International Red Cross/ Red Crescent (ICRC)

“In violence-stricken areas, the breakdown of essential services is adding to the woes of hundreds of thousands of people.
“This is not a life worth living,” said Bilal, a resident of Rural Damascus. “Together with dozens of other families, we’re crowded into an unfinished building shell without electricity or water. Even if the shelling around us were to stop, there would still be the heat, the flies buzzing over our heads and the stench of the garbage outside.”
Areas plagued by heavy fighting, including Rural Damascus, eastern parts of Aleppo and Deir Ezzor and the governorate of Raqqa, are enduring breakdowns of essential services such as the supply of electricity and water and the collection of garbage.
“Many water stations have been damaged and can no longer supply the communities that depend on them,” said Jean-Marc Burri, in charge of the ICRC’s water and sanitation activities in Syria. “Furthermore, waste management services, including the collection of garbage, have become almost non-existent in some areas where fighting has been taking place, or only continue to be performed through the efforts of the people living there.”
“The failure to remove refuse for lengthy periods of time could have a serious impact on the well-being of entire communities,” he said. “Piles of garbage are ideal breeding grounds for disease and parasites.”
To help ward off any public health catastrophe, the ICRC launched a number of projects aimed at improving overall sanitary conditions. “We’re trying to improve, as far as possible, the conditions in which people affected by the fighting have to live,” said Mr Burri.
Thanks to the joint efforts of the ICRC and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, garbage in Aleppo’s Jisr Al-Haj area was collected and disposed of over the past couple of weeks. In addition, insecticides were sprayed in Aleppo and Idlib to help control parasites. Furthermore, ICRC engineers worked together with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and local water boards to carry out emergency repairs in areas of heavy fighting to ensure the availability of clean potable water.
Since the beginning of August, in cooperation with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, the ICRC has also:
provided local water boards in Rural Damascus, Damascus, Aleppo, Lattakia, Sweida, al-Hassakeh, Deir Ezzor, Tartous, Homs and Idlib with technical expertise, equipment and supplies, including pumps and generators;
continued to upgrade water, housing and sanitary facilities at more than 45 public sites in eight governorates where displaced people are living, while completing work at another 14 sites in three governorates.
The ICRC’s health department has:
assessed two hospitals in Hama to which it donated surgical supplies for the full treatment of 100 seriously injured patients;
provided the Syrian Arab Red Crescent branch in Hama with medical assistance, including chronic disease medication for the treatment of 450 patients;
supplied the Syrian Arab Red Crescent with medications for 2,500 children.
The ICRC’s relief department has:
supplied food parcels for some 260,000 people in Deir Ezzor, Hama, Aleppo, Rural Damascus, Lattakia, Homs, Idlib and Damascus governorates;
provided mattresses and blankets for 60,000 people in Rural Damascus, Homs, Hama, Lattakia, Deir Ezzor and Damascus;
supplied kitchen sets (cooking pots, plates, cups and cutlery) for more than 30,000 people in Hama, Homs, Deir Ezzor, Lattakia and Damascus;
supplied hygiene items (shampoos, soaps, washing detergents, female hygiene items, etc.) to some 70,000 people in Hama, Homs, Deir Ezzor, Rural Damascus and Lattakia.” – ICRC

هي قوات المسلحة البريطانية وضع خطط لتدخل عسكري محتمل ردا على هجوم الغازات السامة المزعومة في دمشق، والذي يعتقد أنه قتل المئات من المدنيين.

United Nations chief Ban Ki-Moon is confident that inspectors will do their job – after they survived a sniper attack in Damascus.
Chemical weapons experts gathered “valuable” evidence on a suspected chemical weapons attack near Damascus despite coming under sniper fire, United Nations officials said.
The team’s lead vehicle was “deliberately shot at multiple times” as they left a government checkpoint during a visit to part of the city where hundreds of people were allegedly killed, Martin Nesirky told Sky News.
Prime Minister David Cameron spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin after cutting short his holiday and is expected to make a decision about recalling Parliament tomorrow as the diplomatic crisis over Syria’s civil war deepens.
The UN’s Angela Kane leaves the inspectors’ hotel in Damascus
None of the UN inspectors, who were dressed in body armour, was injured in the attack, which came after two mortar bombs landed close to their hotel.
It was not clear who was responsible for the sniper attack, which damaged the vehicle’s tyres and front window, although Bashar al Assad’s regime blamed the mortar fire on rebel fighters.
After the shooting, the UN inspectors were able to change vehicles and meet victims of the alleged chemical attack, taking samples for testing before returning to their hotel in Damascus.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon did not blame either side for the convoy attack but said he had told his disarmament chief Angela Kane to make a “strong complaint” to the Syrian government.
His spokesman Farhan Haq said in New York: “Despite the passage of a number of days, the Secretary General is confident that the team will be able to obtain and analyze evidence relevant for its investigation of the August 21 incident.”
UN inspectors speak to medics shortly after their convoy was attacked
The Assad regime said the inspections in Zamalka and Ein Tarma districts will prove allegations that chemical weapons were used against civilians, including children, were “lies”.
The opposition claimed 1,300 people were killed, while Doctors Without Borders said 355 people died in hospital from “neurotoxic” symptoms.
Mr Ban said the people of Syria deserved to know the truth, adding: “We cannot allow impunity in what appears to be a grave crime against humanity.”
The international community continues to consider its response to the crisis, with the Foreign Secretary warning military action may be the only remaining option.
David Cameron ended his holiday so he can chair of a meeting of the UK’s National Security Committee on Wednesday and discussed the crisis with President Putin by telephone, Downing Street confirmed.
Doctors Without Borders said 355 people died in the alleged attack
Mr Putin disagreed with Mr Cameron’s assertion that there was “little doubt” the attack was carried out by the Syrian regime, A No 10 spokesman said.
Hopes of a peace conference in Geneva appear to be receding, with sources in the Syrian opposition telling Reuters the talks are “off the table” after the alleged chemical attack.
William Hague said Britain and other countries could respond to the alleged attack without the unanimous backing of the UN, telling the BBC: “Otherwise it might be impossible to respond to such outrages, such crimes.”
Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has cancelled a planned trip to visit British troops in Afghanistan so he can attend the security committee meeting.
Shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander urged the Prime Minister to recall Parliament to “make his case in advance of a decision being made”.
Meanwhile, French politicians are preparing to meet “in the coming days” to decide whether to respond with force, according to the country’s foreign minister Laurent Fabius.
Bashar al Assad denied his regime had used chemical weapons
There is mounting speculation that France, together with Britain and the US, could back limited airstrikes to demonstrate that deployment of chemical weapons will not be tolerated.
However, Mr Assad said military intervention by the US would fail.
“Failure awaits the United States as in all previous wars it has unleashed,” the Syrian president said in an interview with Russian newspaper Izvestia.
Describing the chemical weapons accusations as “nonsense”, Mr Assad added: “Would any state use chemical or any other weapons of mass destruction in a place where its own forces are concentrated? That would go against elementary logic.
“Accusations of this kind are entirely political and the reason for them is the government forces’ series of victories over the terrorists.”
Mr Assad received backing from two of his main allies, with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warning that the use of force without a UN mandate would violate international law.
Urging the West not to go down a “dangerous path”, he said: “If anybody thinks that bombing and destroying the Syrian military infrastructure, and leaving the battlefield for the opponents of the regime to win, would end everything – that is an illusion.”
Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei blamed countries outside the Middle East for the turmoil and said states in the region backing the Syrian opposition would be damaged by the conflict.
“The main reason behind the status quo in the region is interference from outside the region,” the state news agency Fars quoted Khamenei as saying in a meeting with Oman’s Sultan Qaboos.

UN chemical weapons inspectors shot at by snipers in Syria
UN experts looking into claims that Syria has deployed chemical weapons against its own people have been forced to abandon their investigation after they were shot at by snipers near Damascus.
UN experts were ‘deliberately’ targeted as they travelled in convoy to the site of the alleged atrocities in Syria. One car was damaged but no injuries was reported.
The inspectors were travelling to the site of the attack in a suburb of Damascus after the regime – which blames any chemical weapon use on opposition forces – gave its permission almost a week after the incident.
Despite a temporary ceasefire being agreed, their first vehicle was “deliberately shot at multiple times by unidentified snipers in the buffer zone area” , a spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said.
“As the car was no longer serviceable, the team returned safely back to the government checkpoint. The team will return to the area after replacing the vehicle,” he added.
The UN appealed for co-operation from both sides to allow the team access to the site.

Syria chemical attack facts tough to trace amid US & UK war hardline
The US and many of its allies seem impatient to wait for the UN findings – with American warships already converging near the war-torn state – and the British are preparing to join them.
