An RAF helicopter was forced to land in a field in Conwy county as a precaution after encountering technical difficulties.

The Merlin helicopter is normally based at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire but had been working out of RAF Valley on Anglesey.

It was forced to land in a field near Old Colwyn, the RAF confirmed.

The RAF said it hoped the problem would be fixed on Wednesday allowing the aircraft to return to Valley.

It had made a “precautionary landing due to minor engineering issues”, said a spokeswoman.
