Tropical Storm Yagi Sunday Evening Update

Published on June 9, 2013 by

Advisory : Tropical Storm Yagi will remain just that, Tropical Storm through the coming days. This storm is not expected to intensify due to an increase in vertical wind shear and dry air influence wrapping in to the storm system. Even the risk of flooding across Japan should remain limited and local but the threat will still be there as moisture onflow pushes across the Kinki and Tokai regions by mid-week.

Details : Yagi is forecasted to reach a max intensity of 93kph on Wednesday with a pressure of 985hpa before rapidly weakening as it encounters friction due to Japans terrain and increased vertical wind shear.

PAGASA: TS Dante accelerates slightly, continues moving over Philippine sea

June 9, 2013 11:12pm (PhT)

Tropical Storm Dante (international code name Yagi) accelerated slightly as it continued to move over the Philippine Sea Sunday night, state weather forecasters said.

PAGASA estimated Dante to be 970 km east of Basco, Batanes as of 10 p.m., with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

In its 11 p.m. advisory, PAGASA said Dante was moving north-northeast at 13 kph and is expected to be 1,090 km northeast of Basco, Batanes Monday evening.

By Tuesday evening, it is expected to be 1,260 km northeast of Basco, Batanes, or at 560 km east of Okinawa, Japan.

While no public storm warning signals were raised, PAGASA said Dante may bring rainfall of 5 to 15 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within its 350-km diameter.

PAGASA said Dante is too far to directly affect any part of the country but will continue to enhance the southwest windflow that will bring rains and thunderstorms over the western sections of southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. DVM, GMA News
