The same storm system which will produce blizzard conditions across parts of the Plains will spark a round of severe weather along the Gulf Coast on Monday.
Moisture will lift northward late Sunday night across the central Gulf Coast as a warm front lifts north. This will bring a round of rain and thunderstorms to New Orleans, Mobile and Pensacola.
This initial batch of thunderstorms late Sunday night into Monday morning could produce significant downpours and localized flash flooding.
As these storms lift northward, the central Gulf Coast will end up in the warm sector of the developing blizzard.
This will lead to a very unstable environment during the day Monday with warm and humid air surging northward. Numerous thunderstorms will develop by midday Monday and Monday afternoon, some of which will become severe, producing damaging winds, hail and even a few tornadoes.
