The Carnival Triumph finally docked in Alabama early this morning to chants from passengers of ‘Let me off’.
The ship had been stranded without power for days in the Gulf of Mexico after an engine room fire.
It took four hours to disembark passengers and most still have to make a long journey home via bus or back to the port of departure Galveston.
Passengers spoke of their delight to be back on dry land after days without power in the Gulf of Mexico.
Reports had emerged from passengers of onboard conditions that included sewage on the floors, poor sanitation and poor access to toilets.
The passengers are being taken by bus either to Galveston in Texas, which is about seven hours away, or to New Orleans, where the firm said it had booked 1,500 hotel rooms.
